I have a very bad memory when someone asks what I have watched recently. Or they ask about a movie or TV series I had watched previously. So these posts are going to be sort of mini notes for me. Without wasting any time, here is a list of movies and TV series that I watched in July.
Knives out – 4/5
This was one of the best movies I watched this month. It’s a murder mystery. An author who writes crime is found dead in his bed following his birthday party. It looks like a suicide but is it? Apart from the police there is a private detective (Daniel Craig) also investigating the death. And we have a nurse (Ana de Amas) who pukes if she lies (kind of funny to watch) and she is involved in the death of her patient somehow. I liked her, Chris Evans and Daniel Craig in the movie. Other actors were also good, but these three were obviously the center. The twist, in the end, is unexpected. It’s not one of those movies I would watch again, so gave 4 stars, otherwise a decent mystery.
A simple favor – 4/5
Anna Kendrick (Stephanie) plays the role of a single mother, blogger, perfectionist, and detective. Blake Lively (Emily) does the part of the villainess. And she rocks that. Stephanie meets Emily because their kids are friends. And soon they become friends as per Stephanie thinks. Emily is just using her as an unpaid babysitter. Until one day, Emily disappears and is found dead. Then the story revolves around how Stephanie uses her detective skills to solve this kidnapping/murder mystery all the while being a super mom and vlogger. It was fun to watch this one. Guessing the next moves by Stephanie/Emily was part of that fun. Another one of the good movies this month. It’s not one of those movies I would watch again, so gave 4 stars, otherwise a decent mystery.
Bulbul – 4/5
The story is based on the time India was part of the British Empire. It takes through the life of a little girl Bulbul married at an early age of Five to a man. It touches a lot of issues faced by women – child marriage, rape, domestic violence, etc. Bulbul befriends his husband’s brother who is almost her age and sort of loves him. In her innocence, she doesn’t know that will not be allowed. She loses her naiveness and innocence all in one horrible night. That was horrible what happened to her. Now men are being killed in the village. Is she behind those murders? It was a little slow for me, so gave 4 stars, otherwise a decent mystery.
The American President – 5/5
Watched this one again as couldn’t find anything more interesting. It portrays that Presidents are just like us. They have personal life which gets daily scrutinized by media and people. Just like in this one, President falls in love and the opposition targets his character and his girlfriend’s character to win the election.
My Spy – 3/5
This was an average film. There were definitely some cute, funny and comedy moments. But overall the movie was slow and predictable. The story is about a spy and a little girl. The girl finds out that guy is spying on her and her mother and utilizes it for her benefit. Would recommend to watch with kids, they might like it more than us.
Abominable – 5/5
This one is 5/5, no doubt. That yeti child was super cute. We started this for our little daughter so that we watches something else than Cocomelon. She just watched intermittently but we both were immersed in the story. I can watch this again. The story revolves around how three kids help a yeti reach his home while protecting it from the kidnappers.
Saving Mr. Banks – 4/5
Stumbled upon this one by mistake, while I was searching for some disney movies for my daughter. Tom Hanks plays Mr. Disney. He is trying to turn Mary Poppins books into a movie and for that he needs full right from the author P.L. Travers. He finally is able to get her to come to US after ten years. He and his team try very hard to make her comfortable and like their ideas for the movie. I liked seeing the chase and how in the end he is able to find the one thing that made the author happy. It was also humbling to know how Mary Poppins originated in the author’s mind. It was a good one time watch.
Breathe: Into the Shadows – 3/5
We watched the full series in a day. It was another good mystery. Although, everything got revealed in the middle (kind of make sense), and then it became predictable. The story is how two parents become killers to get their daughter back from the kidnapper. The identity of the kidnapper is what makes the series interesting.
Chef – 5/5
This is my husband’s favorite and mine too. We have watched it multiple times. The story of a father (a chef) and son bonding together on a food truck while traveling through the US. I love the way he makes a grilled cheese sandwich for his son. I wish I could make one like that for me.
The Princess and the Frog – 3/5
A typical Disney princess movie. We watched this one for our daughter. Initially she liked it, afterwards, the movie was just playing and she was also playing. It is the love story of a Prince, ousted by his parents and a waitress, dreaming to open her cafe. How they both become frogs and find each other.
This is what I watched last month. Have you guys been watching any good movies or TV series? If yes, do share your recommendations.
Thanks for reading!
